Masala vada

Ingredients

  • Chana dal- 1/2 cup
  • Onion- 1 big finely chopped
  • Mint leaves – 1 tsp chopped
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tsp chopped
  • Curry leaves- 1 tsp chopped
  • Oil to deep fry
  • Salt as required

To grind

  • Fennel Seeds / Saunf- 1 tsp
  • Jeera- 1 tsp
  • Red chillies- 2
  • Garlic- 6 to 7 cloves
  • Ginger- 1 inch piece

Method

  • Soak Channa dal for 2 hours. Drain and keep aside.
  • Grind together the ingredients listed under ‘to grind’ to a coarse paste. Then add the soaked Channa dal , salt and blend it coarsely.
  • Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add the chopped onions, mint, coriander and curry leaves. Mix everything well .
  • Take a small portion shape them as a ball and slightly flatten it.
  • Heat oil and add the Vadas . Deep fry them till golden brown, turning over both sides. Serve hot
