Bitter Gourd Masala

Ingredients

  • Bitter gourd- 1/4 kg
  • Onions- 2
  • Tomatoe -1
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Ginger garlic paste- 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1.5 tsp
  • Garam masala powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves
  • Oil – 3 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Ghee – 1 tsp
  • Salt as required

Method

  1. Wash and cut the bitter gourd and discard the seeds.
  2. Add the bitter gourd in a pressure cooker.
  3. Add 1/4 tsp salt and a cup of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  4. Heat oil in a pan , add mustard . Once splutters add the curry leaves .
  5. Then add chopped onions and green chilli. Sauté for few minutes.
  6. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for 3 minutes.
  7. Then add the chopped tomato and all the spice powders and sauté for 4-5 minutes.
  8. Now add the bitter gourd and pour 1/4 cup water. Add required salt .
  9. Sauté for 7 minutes and then add the ghee and mix well. Bitter gourd masala is ready .
